I find it interesting that for each culture with it’s own unique language and dialectic, there seems to be a set of proverbs (axioms, adages, sayings) that share a commonality. “Never bite the hand that feeds you,” is a typical example. A synonymous phrase can be found in dozens of languages, all expressing roughly the same idea. Conversely, there are many proverbs that are unique to a specific language. My work is a visual expression of those phrases. Pieces of written languages from all over the planet translated into imagery all can read. By sharing some of these proverbs with the viewer, I hope to expose them to the world outside their personal existence and foster understanding between cultures.
